How to use this shed block calculator

  1. Enter the outside shed length and width.
  2. Choose the number of skid or support rows under the shed floor.
  3. Set the widest block spacing you want to allow along each skid.
  4. Add block and gravel prices if you want a rough shopping budget.

FAQ

How many concrete blocks for a 10×12 shed?

With 3 skid rows, 12 inch end setbacks, and about 4 foot maximum spacing, this calculator estimates 15 blocks: 5 blocks under each skid row.

Can I put a shed directly on blocks?

Many small sheds are set on blocks, but the right foundation depends on shed weight, soil, drainage, frost movement, wind exposure, and local rules. A compacted gravel base or gravel pad under each block usually gives better drainage and leveling.

Should the blocks support the skids or the floor joists?

For most skid-based sheds, blocks go under the skids or runners. If your shed uses a different floor system, follow the shed plan and place supports where the load path requires them.

Is 6 foot block spacing okay for a shed?

Six feet may work for some light sheds with strong skids, but 4 feet is a common conservative planning value for small backyard sheds. Heavy equipment, weak soil, or thinner framing may need closer spacing.
