Trailer ramp length examples
A 24 inch trailer height needs about 93 inches of ramp at a 15 degree angle, about 115 inches at 12 degrees, and about 138 inches at 10 degrees. That is why low-clearance machines often need longer ramps than the short folding ramps that fit easily in a garage.
If your trailer sits higher, the ramp grows quickly. A 36 inch deck height needs about 139 inches at 15 degrees and about 173 inches at 12 degrees. Check that you have enough flat space behind the trailer before choosing very long ramps.
Ramp angle and capacity tips
A steeper ramp can scrape mower decks, motorcycle frames, carts, or snowblower housings. If the calculator flags a steep angle, try lowering the trailer tongue, loading from a slight rise, or using longer ramps rated for the load.
Ramp capacity is just as important as angle. Include the machine, rider if the ramp maker allows ride-on loading, attachments, fuel, cargo, and any dynamic impact from bouncing. When ratings are unclear, choose a higher-rated ramp and follow the manufacturer's instructions.

What trailer ramp angle should I use?
Around 10 to 15 degrees is a practical planning range for many loading jobs when there is enough room. Lower-clearance equipment and heavier loads usually benefit from the gentler end of that range.
How long should trailer ramps be for an ATV?
Measure your trailer deck height first. For a 24 inch deck height, a 14 degree target angle needs about 99 inches of ramp length. A lower 12 degree angle needs about 115 inches.
How do I calculate the angle of ramps I already own?
Divide the deck height by the ramp length, then take the inverse sine of that number. This calculator does that automatically when you enter your rise and existing ramp length.
Do two ramps double the capacity?
Only if the manufacturer rates each ramp individually and the load is shared as intended. Some products list capacity for the pair, not each ramp, so always read the label and instructions.
